Dr. Ware has a doctoral degree in epidemiology with a focus on genetic epidemiology and master’s degrees in statistics and epidemiology. Her work integrates genomic and social data on a large scale to evaluate health disparities and minority health in older adults. Her work includes high throughput statistical analysis of genomic data and its relationship to outcomes that show marked disparities across ages, ethnic groups and sexes, including Alzheimer’s disease and mental health. She has experience in exploring the relationships among genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenetic data and their interactions with behavioral and socioeconomic risk factors as determinants of chronic disease phenotypes that disproportionately affect minorities using cutting-edge computational methods. She co-runs an interdisciplinary research lab composed of other faculty, post-docs, doctoral students, master’s students, staff, and undergraduate students. She is a faculty affiliate of the Michigan Center for Demography and Aging, the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, and the Population Dynamics and Health Program. She was an NIH-NIA Butler-William’s scholar (2017 cohort) and she teaches the hands-on lab component of the Genomics for Social Scientists workshop offered annually through PNG.
